🧠 The Big Idea

• Groups (columns) share the same number of outer electrons → similar chemistry. Periods (rows) = number of electron shells.
• Mendeleev arranged elements by properties; the modern table orders them by atomic number.
• Left → metals, right → non-metals, far right → un-reactive noble gases (full outer shell).
