🔺 Similarity & Pythagoras
The square on the longest side equals the two smaller squares
added together
. See it live!
side a
3
side b
4
a² + b² = c²
9 + 16 = 25
so c = 5
🔎
Similarity:
shapes with equal angles & proportional sides are
similar
— same shape, different size.
🧠 The Big Idea
Pythagoras theorem:
in a right-angled triangle,
a² + b² = c²
(c is the hypotenuse, the longest side).
Similar triangles
have the same angles and sides in the same ratio — enlargements of each other.
These ideas let us measure the unreachable: heights of towers, widths of rivers, distances in maps. 🗺️
