Follow the head (left to right): The reservoir has near-zero head. The pump station adds ~50 m head by expending electricity. The rising main carries pressurised water up to the elevated tank, whose physical height stores this energy as potential head. Gravity then drives water through the trunk main to each zone. A PRV steps pressure down at zone boundaries. The MPC controller (amber box) decides every 15 minutes: pump now or coast on the tank — optimising against tariff rates, tank level, and predicted demand.
